Goondiwindi Foodworks is set to re-open next week and we can't tell who is more excited.

Locals are counting down for the store to open its doors next Wednesday and the new owners are "thrilled" with the reception they've received so far.

"Everyone has been so supportive and welcoming," Kate Beard said. We are looking forward to being a part of the community and giving back to the local people," she said.

Mrs Beard, her husband Peter and son Sidney have moved to Goondiwindi to open the store. Their son Douglass also plans to hopefully join them at the end of the year. "We have 30 years experience in business retail, wholesale and hospitality. We have moved here from Hervey Bay so we are really excited about moving back to the country and keen to be a part of the local community," Mrs Beard said. "Sid has already been out to the motocross on Sunday."

The Beard and Nguyen families met in Miles in 1995 and have been friends ever since. The Nguyen family has owned Foodworks stores in Miles, Childers - where they also worked with the Beards - Canungra, Burpengary, Loganholme and Woodridge. "We're so excited to have this opportunity to work together again," Mrs Nguyen said.

The owners wanted to reassure customers that the Goondiwindi store is independently owned by new locals, and not a chain. "Foodworks is one of the largest independent retail stores in Australia," Mrs Nguyen said.

They'll be supplying "fresh quality produce and offer competitive pricing". And they are hiring a team of locals too. About 30 juniors are coming onboard along with a number of new staff and many returning familiar faces too.

They also want to work with local businesses and producers. "We've had farmers sell things such as avocados and eggs before so we want to support locals. Please come and see us. Our doors are always open."

Foodworks will open next Wednesday 15th at 7am with the grand opening Saturday 18th from 12-2pm with a free sausage sizzle and in-store specials. "Everyone is welcome so come and say hi."
