Could you imagine winning a year's worth of pizza? It's the stuff dreams are made of but Gundy's newest pizza joint is making that wish come true for one lucky winner.

Porky's Pizza will open their doors on Wednesday, February 19 at 2pmbut they had the town talking before anyone was even able to taste what's on offer.

Their Facebook competition has received over 2000 entries and reached 15,000 people across social media since its launch. But you're not too late to get a slice of the action. Entries will close at 6pm on Saturday, February 22. The winner will be announced on Monday 24th.

"It is so exciting," said owner, Brad "Porky" Sutherland. "It's gone crazy. I didn't think it would blow up that much and that quickly. It's been really overwhelming," he said.

Probably the most rewarding aspect though is the feedback Brad and his team are already receiving. "I've had so much support from residents and local businesses. It really shows how good it is to live in a small, country town where everyone supports each other," he said.

Brad has over 12 years' experience working at the old Aussies, Dominos and A Trucking Good Pizza stores.

After moving to Brisbane in 2016 to manage 'Pizza Cartel HQ', Porky had the chance to explore popular pizza restaurants across the city and taste delicious recipes which he is now bringing back to Goondiwindi.

"I started working at the pizza shop at 13 to earn money while going to school. I didn't think at 26-years-old I'd still be doing this. But pizza is all I know, and I'm passionate about it. I couldn't think of doing anything different now," he said. "I've had the opportunity to buy in the last six years or so but the timing just wasn't right. This time it has all fell in to place."

Brad said he'd now be able to implement his ideas and train staff the way he wants. "I want to make good pizza but I also want to teach staff general life skills. For most of our employees, this will be their first job. I want to give them the chance to learn about handling money, customer service and so on. Yes, we are a fast food place but I want this to be more like a family, I want people to want to come to work and to enjoy their job. Our motto is 'make good pizza, make great friendships'."

Brad said he aimed to offer an easy-going, modern, fun and affordable pizza restaurant with personality. "I think it's something Gundy hasn't seen before. I want them to have an experience from the moment they order. I want them to leave wanting to come back again.

"I want it to be a place where kids can come and hang out after school, on their way to footy training or wherever. I grew up in Goondiwindi and have been involved in many community events and I am now excited to give back to those sporting groups, community events, schools and people in need," he said. "I want to be able to give back to the community because without the locals, we wouldn't have a business."

Porky's will offer an affordable option for families with the cheap range starting at $8 and the specialties $20. "We'll bring in combos and a cheap day when we get on our feet. Down the track we'd like to be able to offer entrees, main and dessert," he said. There will also be an online ordering system in place via a website soon.

If you're looking for a recommendation Brad suggests the nacho pizza. "I'm always a barbecue meatlovers fan but I think this one will be the most popular. It hasn't been done here before." So what's on it? A salsa base with onion, tomato, ground beef, taco seasoning, mozzarella cheese and corn chips.

You can try the new nacho pizza and more from Wednesday. Their official launch will get underway with a DJ, glitter paint and balloons from 4pm. And the first 50 orders will receive a free garlic bread.
