The Goondiwindi under 12 Boars have brought home the bacon after winning the junior rugby league grand final in Stanthorpe on Saturday, 24-10.
In other matches the under 16s lost to Collegians and the under 17 girls league tag lost to Stanthorpe.
Coach Peter Vukovich was full of praise for his u12 chargers. "I really enjoyed coaching this great group of boys. Their 100% effort and team work all year showed in the grand final I was so pleased to see all their hard work pay off with such a convincing win," he said.
The U17 Girls League Tag game against Stanthorpe was cut short by a half after one of the Gundy girls took a head knock in the first three minutes. Goondiwindi only just went down 8-4. "We had some good opportunity's in the back line with Maleka Cragie, Abbie Bulmer, Hayley Armstrong and the two Anderson girls Katelyn and Alicia all making some great yards off the back of some good runs up the middle from the other girls," Coach Dallas Marsh said. "Thanks to all that have helped out this year with the girls," she said.
The junior Goondiwindi Boars have been renowned for giving it their all and showing true-grit.
And the under 16s certainly did that on Saturday despite losing the grand final on Saturday in Stanthorpe.
"The boys played their hearts out and their defence was spot on," Coach Peter Bourchier said.
"The Goondiwindi Junior Rugby League Football Club is very proud of the way these boys conducted themselves.
"After playing their final game against Stanthorpe on Tuesday night in Texas the boys where still feeling it on Saturday.
"Collegians got a three-week break leading up to the game so they came out fresh and ready.
"In our eyes these boys are champions and winners. Congratulations to our u16s a truly great side and a great bunch of boys. It has been a total honour to coach these boys and make the grand final. We wish all the boys who are leaving junior league all the best in their next club," he said.
