Director Carolyn Stuart said the cast and crew have created something very special which will appeal to young and old. "The Sound of Music is such a timeless, tuneful, heart-warming story based on the real life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world's best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II," she said.

"The Goondiwindi Cultural Centre has been fitted with a new lighting system which is phenomenal and will enhance the talent and inherent joy of the story and the talented cast."

Maria is a tomboyish trainee nun at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of Captain Von Trapp, a widowed naval captain with seven children.

She brings a new love of life and music into the home. Max prepares the children for their singing debut at the Salzburg Festival but the Captain refuses to let his children sing in the concert.

However, when a Nazi German official arrives and tells the Captain he must leave immediately to take his post in the German navy, the family must buy time. The roads are cut off by German police and the family have nothing but each other.

The Sound of Music was an immediate and lasting hit with audiences. "And I'm sure the community of Goondiwindi is going to love it too!"
