Goondiwindi Boars to host rugby league season-opener against Gatton Hawks

Gundy takes on Gatton in four grades at home on Sunday. C Grade kicks-off just after 10am with A-grade to run on at 2.30pm. The Boars will welcome nine new signings:

Nathan Tuiqali - front rower. Former Parramatta Harold Matthews and SG Ball player. The last few seasons he has been playing for Wentworthville in the Sydney Shield. he is a man mountain who arrives in town looking for new opportunities.

Khaled Tamer - front rower (Moorebank Rams). A Bankstown junior who is a late bloomer. A couple of months ago he was named in the Mediterranean squad that played in the recent emerging nations tournament in Sydney. A regular in that rep side all through his juniors.

Sandy Rae - workaholic backrower/centre from Newcastle Thunder (UK). He spent last season in the tough Group 9 comp in NSW. Playing in the third tier comp in the UK will be a good grounding for the TRL.

Ben Fisher - another UK import. A halfback who came through the Wigan Super League academy. A noted goal-kicker who has not kicked at below 75 per cent the last couple of seasons.

Michael Hazard - a rookie halfback from Mackay who arrives in town looking for a breakout season. He has already developed a cult following with his mop of frizzy hair. He is small but a very gutsy player who can bring the big boys down easily. He will be a crowd favourite.

Sitiveni Aipolo - fullback/centre from Auckland who plays in the Fox Memorial comp. He has represented both Auckland and Tonga at under 18 level.

Jason Saunders - an outside back from Moree who knows how to score plenty of points. If he can remain injury free, he could be the Boars' X factor out wide.

Mike Walker - from the Chester Gladiators club (UK). He is a safe and reliable outside back who has come over to improve his game. He has worked hard in the gym during pre-season so is ready to take any opportunity presented.

Aaron York - A classy ball playing backrower who has come through the Wakefield Trinity academy (UK). He is keen to get here to showcase his skills.
