The countdown is on to one of the biggest events on the local social calendar, the Goondiwindi Picnic Races.

With only two weeks to go fashionistas are busy preparing their outfits, ready for April 6.

One of this year's fashions on the field judges is Sammie O'Brien.

Sammie is a lifestyle TV presenter on Channel 7 but has taken a few months off and headed to the bush to work on cattle stations.

"It’s the best decision I’ve ever made!"

Sammie said the most important thing when it came to fashion was to dress to your body shape and what you feel comfortable in, and then adjust this to what the season/trend is.

"You’ve got to be comfortable first, to have a cracker of a day," she said.

"I don’t think you necessarily need to spend a lot of money to look fabulous. There are so many places now creating beautiful millinery pieces, headbands and accessories that are really affordable. I think accessories are a great way to finish off a look and complement your outfit. I also love supporting little, local designers."

And sorry ladies, Sammie said, "my major don’t, is never take your shoes off".

The committee have been busy with new works being completed at the track including new elevated areas, gardens and entry gates.

Another new feature is the introduction of online tickets.

President Casey Simpson said, “We’re constantly looking for ways to improve our event, and online ticketing was a logical next step for us. Many of our racegoers spend a great deal of time online - browsing, shopping, researching, using social media – it is just part of their everyday lives. We hope that the introduction of online ticketing for the Picnics will be welcomed by the community. It’s about making their lives easier. It should also help streamline processes at our entry gates and help people get into the event more quickly," Miss Simpson said.

“We’re thrilled with how preparations for the event are coming along. It really is a team effort by our 20-plus committee members. We can’t wait to see everyone at the event."

There will be plenty for everyone including a Pimm's bar, mothers' tent with change tables and fans plus the courtesy bus will be running again.

Amber Lawrence and Co will entertain the crowd late in to the night after the racing.

Over 25 sponsors have helped make the event possible including major sponsors Kenway & Clark/Brown Hurley, and fashions on the field sponsor Woods Group.

You can keep up to date with everything at www.goondiwindipicnicraces.com.au where you can purchase your tickets and find out more about the day.
