Triathlon and Hell-loving hordes descend on Goondiwindi

Well, for something that is supposed to be "hell" it sures looks like a lot of fun.

It’s here and the hordes are descending for a hell of a weekend.

Goondiwindi’s famous, and infamous, Hell of the West Triathlon has arrived.

So you don’t miss any of the action, here’s a schedule of events.

(And it’s not too late to enter. Nominations taken at the Sundial until late this afternoon)

The Saturday morning kicks off at 7am with the 5km & 10km charity inferno runs.

These can be run or walked and prams and wheelchairs are very welcome. There is no 5km Park Run. Children under 10 yrs to be accompanied by a registered adult.

From 8:30am the Fire Starter enticer triathlon kicks off. This is a 200m swim, 7.5km bike ride and 2km run for 12 and overs.

The Hell Kids Children’s Triathlon then kicks off from 10am.

The 7-9 yr olds tackle a 50m swim, 2.5km bike & 500m run.

The 10-11 yr olds take on 100m, 5km & 1km.

Super Saturday

Friday -3.30pm – 6.00pm GTH+ Super Saturday race bag pick up and late registrations opens at The Sundial Events Centre located 50m from the Town Park.

Saturday – 6.00-7.30am Race bag pick up for all Super Saturday events at The Sundial Events Centre – NO LATE REGOS WILL BE OFFERED.

7.00am – 8.00am Rack Bikes for Firestarter and Hell Kids – Please note that this is the ONLY TIME you may rack your or your child’s bike.

Gundy Inferno 5k & 10k Charity Runs.

6.45am Race Brief in Town Park.

7.00am Race Starts in Town Park.

Proceeds of this event will go back to local charities supported by PCYC and CARE Goondiwindi.

The 5km and 10km options which are great for the beginner runner or the park runner looking to challenge themselves with a longer race distance. 

Prize Money Male and Female Categories 10km 1 st $100, 2nd $60, 3rd $30 5km 1 st $70, 2nd $ 40, 3rd $20.

The Firestarter is the perfect race for people keen to “give triathlon a go”.

9.45am Race Brief in Town Pool Area.

10.00am Race Starts in Town Pool Area Race distances 7-9yrs kids – 50m Swim + 2.5km Bike + 500m Run Race distances 10-11yrs kids – 100m Swim + 5km Bike + 1km Run.

Kids Tri has NO TIMING and is a participation race only • Age is of at 31/12/2018 •  Presentations and Bike Collection 11 to 11:30am approximately.

The big day

Saturday 2.00pm Race registration (for Sunday HOTW) commences at 'The Sundial Goondiwindi Events Centre.

5.30pm COMPULSORY HOTW RACE BRIEFING in the Town Park E&E Waste Hell of the West Triathlon.

Sunday

3.30am Bike compound opens EASTERN end only.

Officials will conduct visual inspection.

4-5.30am.  Town Pool Opens for Competitors (Re-opens at 8am-12 noon free of charge for competitors and public).

4.30am Transition Closes. Competitors make way to Town Boat Ramp.

5.00am First Wave: Open Male & Female 5.05am. Second Wave: 18 to 39 Males.

5.10am Third Wave: 40 to 70+ Males.

5.15am Fourth Wave: Females.

5.20am Fifth Wave: Teams.

SWIM FINISH

5.25am First Swimmer passes through transition.

6.30am Last Swimmer passes through transition.

CYCLE FINISH

7.25am Leading Cyclist completes cycling leg.

9.40am Last Competitor completes cycle course.

RACE FINISH

8.40am Winning Male crosses the line.

9.10am Winning Female crosses the line 12 Noon Presentation and Random Draws Begin
