Goondiwindi’s annual Christmas festivities in the main street has a new format.
Rather than just a late-night shopping event the Chamber of Commerce is aiming to create a more family-orientated night out.
Administration officer, Laryssa Quartermaine, said a name change to Twilight on Marshall on Thursday, December 13 was one of the moves to create a “mini festival” atmosphere.
“This year we will have a kids precinct on the corner of Moffatt and Marshall streets.
“There will be a jumping castle, snow cones and the CWA stall will have cookie decorating.”
Unfortunately this year, due to the tightening of insurance constraints, the Bozo bus will not be at Twilight on Marshall. “It was a tough decision to make but their hands have been tied and for the safety of the public they need to take the Bozo bus off the road until they can be 100 per cent sure it is compliant with insurance requirements,” Mr Clyne said.
Despite this, there will still be plenty to keep the whole family entertained.
“There will be an entertainment area on Herbert Street near Bowen Lane where there will be a fashion parade and local musos,” Mrs Quartermaine said.
“There will be plenty of food options too with some of the cafes open plus a Rotary barbecue, a spud van and more.
“We will have a competition running Monday to Thursday. Anyone shopping in Goondiwindi on those days can write their details on the back of their docket to go in the draw to win a Gundy Gift Card by dropping their entry in the barrel on the night of the event. The draw will be at 7.15pm after the business showcase on Herbert Street. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to find out where the barrel will be. And the winner must be there on the night,” Mrs Quartermaine said.
