He’s Goondiwindi’s best golfer.
And on the weekend he proved he can match it with Australia’s best.
Joel Stahlhut has been making “those in the know” sit up and take notice for years. And he certainly did that in the first three rounds of the Queensland Golf Open at the Brisbane Golf Club.
He shot 72 to warm up and then a magnificent 67 and a 68 put him right in the hunt. But golf can be a capricious mistress.
The course which looked beneign on Saturday bit back on Sunday.
He cruised through the first 13 holes but 14 to17 are ones he will be keen to put behind him.
Three double-bogeys and a bogey sent him tumbling down the leaderboard.
But he wasn’t the only one to struggle.
Overall winner Jordan Zunic took a five-stroke lead into the last day.
He needed everyone of them, winning by one at the death.
He shot a 73.
We hope to talk to Joel later in the week.
