Every sport produces a pinnacle event.
For the cricket tragic, it is an Ashes series, for Aussie Rules fans, it is September and the final at MCG, in Rugby League it is the Sydney Grand Final and undoubtedly in thoroughbred racing, it is the first Tuesday in November for the Melbourne Cup.
It is the only sporting event that stops the whole nation.
This year, the town of Goondiwindi has been lucky enough to be awarded a visit of the Lexus Melbourne Cup on its journey to Flemington.
Thursday September 20, people of Goondiwindi will have their day to actually see the Lexus Melbourne Cup on their home soil.
An extensive program has been prepared commencing with a street stall outside of Bishops followed by visits to Kaloma, three schools and four hotels before an official arrival at the new pontoon at the boat ramp at 5.30pm.
From the boat ramp, the Cup will be escorted to a special Drought Relief Dinner at O’Sheas Royal Hotel.
This dinner will be something to remember with interviews with Queensland Premier trainer Tony Gollan and 1987 Melbourne Cup and Gunsynd’s former jockey in Larry Olsen.

The Race Club is also conducting a raffle with probably the last reserved seat to see Winx’s assault on her forth Cox Plate which will be drawn at the dinner.

6.10 pm Transfer to Royal Hotel Macintyre Function Room for evening Function. Guest speaker is Qld’s leading trainer for last 3 years Tony Gollan. Supported by Goondiwindi Mayor Graeme Scheu, Goondiwindi Race Club President Geoff Makim and the Lexus Melbourne Cup Ambassadore.
