Therese Eddy speaks at Gateway to Training hosted International Women's Day breakfast

Delicious smells wafted across the Gateway To Training this morning as the organisation celebrated International Women’s Day with an early morning breakfast.

“We all had an excellent time,” Gateway to Training marketing officer Mary Carrigan said.

Over 70 ladies from Goondiwindi and district as well as school leaders from the Goondiwindi State High School attended to hear from guest speaker Therese Eddy.

Therese grew up in Goondiwindi and refers to it as her home place where she feels welcome and has a wonderful sense of belonging.

Even though she left the community many years ago she said that when she hits the outskirts of town on any trip back, she feels a genuine connection.

Her presentation centered around empowering people to be the best they can and to try and chart their own course in life whatever that may be. She also talked about facing failures, and said that it was important to just to keep going, even if you have to change direction.

“Everybody was just thoroughly enthralled with what she had to say, because it was so pertinent to both parents and children,” Ms Carrigan said.

Ms Carrigan said she was struck by Ms Eddy’s accepting attitude to life and towards changing careers.

Ms Eddy then visited the high school to talk about university.

“I think speaking to children of that age group really would open their eyes and help them on their road to adulthood,” she said.

Ms Eddy also spoke to a small group of parents about smooth transitions to university on Wednesday evening.

“Afterwards they were telling her that they appreciated what she had to say, and also, more importantly, what they had learnt from her,” Ms Carrigan said.

Therese has just opened a one on one coaching and consulting business for students and parents. The web address is
