Help Border Rivers Relay for Life create a fairy tale event

Will you help make the Border Rivers Relay For Life organising committee wishes come true?

The volunteer committee have been busy planning a magical event for 2018, recently announcing that it will be held at Gilbert Oval in Goondiwindi on April 21-22, with a ‘Fairytale’ theme – and now they need teams to register!

Chairperson Anni Colbran said it was exciting to see everything come together thanks to fantastic support from the local community.

“We now have all the logistics side sorted and hope the announcement of the 2018 ‘Fairytale’ theme will drum up excitement,” she said.

The theme was decided after a poll and teams are encouraged to use it for inspiration for costumes at Relay, or for their campsite decorations and onsite fundraising.

“With what looks like a lot of school teams coming onboard, I can’t wait to see all the costumes,” Ms Colbran said.

“Now I wish someone could wave a magic wand for more teams to register.”

The tagline for the theme is “once upon a cure” and a cure is what locals will help create when they register.

Goondiwindi Relay For Life is an 18 hour event where teams keep a baton moving in a relay style walk or run overnight to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Council Queensland’s work in cancer control.

Every step taken and every dollar raised at Relay helps make long-term research and pioneering trials possible, leading to new tests and more effective treatments that will help us create a cancer free future sooner.

Ms Colbran said her family’s own experiences with cancer have made her a passionate supporter of Cancer Council Queensland and Relay For Life, urging others to show they care about the cause.

Cancer Council QLD chief executive Chris McMillan thanked the volunteer committee for their hard work in putting together the event, encouraging more locals to get involved.

“Relay is the only community event of its kind in Queensland, with friends and family walking together towards a cancer free future.

“By taking part in Border Rivers Relay For Life, not only will you be making a real difference in the lives of Queenslanders affected by cancer, you’ll have magical moments that you will remember for the rest of your life.

“Don’t miss out - get your friends, family and colleagues together and register now!”
