Racing around the ridges

Let’s hope Racing Queensland doesn’t stuff up another opportunity. It was reported last week Sydney racing will be shown on free-to-air on Channel 7 from this weekend until April 21, which is All Aged Stakes day.

Another report is saying Racing NSW is about to sign a deal with Channel 7 that would extend the coverage for the rest of the year. Apparently Queensland has been invited to become part of the coverage, but Racing Queensland CEO Elliot Forbes has been reported as saying Racing Queensland will examine all media rights opportunities before making a decision.

At the present time Queensland Racing is jammed between NSW Country Racing on free-to-air and the money men are saying the cost to join the deal is peanuts when compared to the increased wagering revenue which would be created from becoming part of the new deal.

Everyone knows Chris Waller is a champion trainer but this season is only six months old and he has already notched up 100 metropolitan winners a remarkable achievement.

Everyone knows Chris Waller is a champion trainer but he has already notched up 100 metropolitan winners.

Considering he holds the record of 169 winners for metropolitan winners set in the  2015/2016 season, there is no doubt he will break that record this season.

How can the track rating boys explain this? The last two Saturdays meetings were at Caulfield and the track rating for both days was a Good 3. A fortnight ago a horse called Manolo Blahnig won a restricted race for horses rated a benchmark 84 over 1400 metres running a time of 1 minute 21.73 secs.

On Saturday on the same Caulfield track, also rated a Good 3 and Hartnell, supposedly the second best horse in Australia, won a Group 1 race over exactly the same distance and ran one minute 24.79 sec which the experts will tell you is about 18 lengths slower.

Rather Rotund Resident goes to the doctor and says “Doc you’ve got to help me. I got something in my right eye and I can’t stop blinking, I just can’t control it”. Doctor says, “Oh come on, it can’t be that bad”. Resident replies, “That’s what you think. Every time I go to the pharmacy to get pain killers they give me condoms”.
