Freckling to pays tribute to 'father' of the LNP

‘I got into politics because of Lawrence Springborg.’

The LNP Deputy-Premiere, Deb Frecklington has paid tribute to former member for Southern Downs, Lawrence Springborg. Mr Springborg did not stand at the last election after serving Goondiwindi as its MP for 28 years.

“Lawrence Springborg is what a politician should be, one who puts his community first, one that speaks his mind when something is heading in the wrong direction, and one who is honest.

“My first face-to-face meeting with Lawrence was in 2010 when he visited Nanango to speak at a business event. At that time, he was the Shadow Attorney-General, and it was his words about the values of the LNP and what the party stood for which encouraged me to join the LNP and consider a future in politics.

“As a small business owner, the LNP values that Lawrence spoke about resonated with me; smaller government, better management, less tax, reward for effort and individual responsibility. As Health Minister my community and all of Queensland saw the real benefit of Lawrence’s leadership. We saw regional health boards re-established, dental and hospital wait lists slashed and importantly rural generalist surgeons installed in our regional hospitals, enabling many patients to stay in their community, or close by, when needing minor operations. I was privileged to work with Lawrence as a Parliamentary colleague from 2012 to 2017. I would like to thank Lawrence Springborg for being such an inspiration and for his commitment to Queensland, in particular our regional areas. He is a mainstay of the LNP and I believe will remain an integral part of our party for many years to come,” she said.
