BOGGABILLA’S TAFE NSW Campus is set for a significant renewal, amid renewed interest in the border community for more skills training, according to Northern Tablelands MP and Minister responsible for TAFE Adam Marshall.
Mr Marshall said TAFE’s involvement in the recent successful Australian Army community assistance program in nearby Toomelah had inspired many in the neighbouring communities to get training to be job ready.
“While the Army was in Toomelah, more than 20 locals undertook and graduated from TAFE courses in hospitality, engineering, construction, business administration and many more,” he said.
“There were also 43 people who completed RSA (responsible service of alcohol) and RCG (responsible conduct of gambling) courses.
“People were inspired by the work of the Army and got involved in the rebuilding of their own community. Now they want to see what else they can do to access more training and ultimately get a job.”
As a result of these strong outcomes and renewed interest, Mr Marshall said TAFE NSW had agreed to a “rejuvenation” of the Boggabilla campus.
“TAFE is currently engaging with the local community, Aboriginal Elders, Moree Plains Shire Council and the schools to determine the courses locals would like to see offered next year,” Mr Marshall said.
“Already, courses such as Aboriginal languages, Aboriginal Sites, Fitness, Business Administration and Early Childhood Education and Care have been identified, but there will be more.
“We’re planning to have a huge relaunch event at the campus next month, which will also include a graduation ceremony for a number of students who successfully completed their courses recently.
“I’m very excited for the Boggabilla and Toomelah communities and the huge opportunities this reinvigorated TAFE campus will offer local people.
“A chance to get trained and skilled, to receive an Australian recognised qualification and ultimately to be able to go out and get job in the district.”
The Boggabilla TAFE NSW Campus relaunch event and graduation will be held at the campus on Tuesday, 19 December. More details will be announced closer to the date.
