Calling riders for April run

Veterans Motorcycle Club Rock Valley Chapter has organised a special Anzac Day Poker Run on April 29.

Member Laurie Whittaker said all bikes types and rider levels were welcome on the day.

He hoped 60 or more bikes would be part of the run, starting at Moree to Mungindi.

“We’ll start at Thomas Lee Harley Davidson in Moree then head to Boomi, have lunch in Talwood and stop by Nindigully before settling down for the night in Mungindi,” he said.

The regular ride first started in the early 2000s with about 30 veterans usually heading to the region for the special event.

Raising money for charity, the ride attracts people from all over Australia.

“I chose this route because its a bit different than usual and a lot of the riders from the coast haven’t been Nindigully way before,” he said.

This year proceeds will be donated to Mungindi Home for the Aged and Veterans.

“I come from Mungindi originally so most of the funds usually benefit a different Mungindi charity,” he said.

Mr Whittaker encouraged all riders to cruise along on the day and said there were no rules.

“You don’t have to keep up with the pack, just go at your own pace and enjoy the ride,” he said.

Moree’s Col Pring will MC the auction with a Byron Bay holiday up for grabs.

“We’ve got entertainment booked for the 2 Mile Hotel in Mungindi and there is accommodation and swag areas available for anyone who wants to make a night out of it.”

The Rock Valley Chapter have also organised a bus for people in Mungindi to head out to the 2 Mile without having to drive.

“Families and children are also welcome to the 2 Mile to enjoy the night of good fun,” Mr Whittaker said.

The ride will cost $25 per person and registrations will begin at 10am at Thomas Lee Harley Davidson.

Riders will kick stands up at 11.30am sharp. For more information phone Laurie on 0418 672 170 or email
