A large pot-hole has opened up on on the Cunningham Highway after heavy rains in the region, causing slight delays for motorists.
The hole is located on the Cunningham Highway about 15km east of Goondiwindi and is causing traffic disruptions.
The “sinkhole” was reported to police by motorists.
A Goondiwindi Regional Council road crew is on scene. Traffic is closed in one lane only.
Despite early reports of a “cavenous hole” the sinkhole is a large pot-hole around 2m by 1.5 m wide and around six inches deep.
Heavy rain over the past has led to many hazardous potholes opening up on roads and people are being urged to drive with care.
Road conditions highlight not just the need for caution, but the price to councils in road repairs.
The bill for the 2011 was in the millions of dollars.
