It was a wonderful finish to the regular season with the battle for the top six places going down to the wire, not being decided until the last few minutes of the round.
Valleys claimed the early honours by wrapping up the minor premiership with a tough win over Wattles, while Gatton and Souths will play each other again in a Wednesday night play-off after Souths snuck into the finals.
Goondiwindi finished off their season impressively with a convincing win over Oakey at Gilberts Oval on Saturday night.
The Boars effort showcased their young talent in front of a huge crowd.
They showed all the signs that they will be a real force to be reckoned with in seasons to come.
The first twenty minutes was a torrid affair with barely a mistake made by either side. Eventually Goondiwindi just wore Oakey down, but the Bears showed plenty of spirit and were gallant in defeat.
Young Will Carter and Tom Halford were Goondiwindi’s best, while Dylan Crump and Jason Crump toiled all game, did the hard yards, and never gave up.
In an amazing coincidence, all three of the Goondiwindi grades scored exactly 50 points. Statisticians would have been scouring the record books.
In fact, it was almost the same scoreline in each game.
A GRADE: Goondiwindi 50 (Will Carter 3, Thomas Halford 2, Levi Wilson 2, Carl Clement, Ronnie David tries Tom Fitzgerald 5, John Goodfellow 2 goals) defeated Oakey 16 (Ezzard Beard, Hector Hilberto, Jeremy Long tries Dylan Crump, Jason Lucas goals)
RESERVE GRADE: Goondiwindi 50 defeated Oakey 16
UNDER 18: Goondiwindi 50 defeated Oakey 20
