Become a better parent and break the cycle

Want to be a better parent? Then here’s a step that might make all the difference.

All you have to do is join the Tie up the Black Dog Committee at the Goondiwindi Community Centre on September 2.

To be great parents we need to be great people.

Kids copy what we do.

You’ve all heard the old adage, “Do as I say, not as I do”. Unfortunately our kids, even the more adult ones, “Do as we do, not as we say”.

Did you ever think or even promise yourself that you’d never turn out like your parents or heard someone else say that? Then one day you woke up and realised that you had some behaviours, even some you aren’t proud of, that are exactly like your parents.

It may be time to break the cycle!

There have been millions of articles and books penned about how to raise children, from infancy right through to adults. As parents, we want to know our children and grasp how we can provide the best parenting, right through their lives into adulthood.

Questions such as:  “Am I doing enough?” “Am I doing the right thing for my family?” have been queried through the generations, but seem to be asked more urgently in this era of social media and the internet.

You’ve all heard the old adage, “Do as I say, not as I do”. Unfortunately our kids, even the more adult ones, “Do as we do, not as we say”.

When our children have problems, we want to help them. Asking questions like “How do we understand when/why our children are stressed?” “How do we make our children grow up feeling safe and loved?”. As our kids often mimic us, we also need to ask similar questions of ourselves.  Are we stressed day to day? Are we frustrated? Are we happy?

Join the Tie up the Black Dog Committee on September 2 at Goondiwindi Community Centre to hear Paul Davis, Melisa Grigg, and Lance Jenkins from Breakthrough Academy give some insights into ourselves, parenting, relationships and the powerful connections we can make within our families once we understand more about each other.

Over the past 10 years, Paul, Lance and Melisa through their work with Breakthrough Academy have helped thousands of people significantly improve their relationships with themselves, their families and/or their children. They are educators and coaches to people of all ages across the country. Perhaps finding the answer to the question “What is the one thing I could do that would make the biggest difference to me, my family and my children?” might be a valuable resource in for YOUR toolbox!

This evening is open to people of all ages. You may be a parent, you may not! Either way this session will help you to better understand yourself, your families and your children (if you have them) and understanding ourselves is the first step to helping another.
