A big day ahead for young Boars as they celebrate Men of League

The Goondiwindi Junior Rugby League is gearing up for one of its biggest weekends. It’s Men of League Day on Saturday.

There will be an auction of jerseys at 4.40pm at Gilbert Oval. All money raised goes to the local branch of the Men of League Foundation.

The juniors were back in action on the weekend, but it was a rusty start for some.

iUnder 9s - Coach Darren Cover: Players were raring to go after a five-week spell. It was try-for-try for most of the game until the boys stamped their authority. Xavier Jenkins charged into the MIT Jets all dayl while Lucas “Axe” Burrows upended anything that come his way. Benji Tomkins had some shrewd runs from dummy-half and Darcy McGregor showed his opposition the definition of speed. The rest of the team performed quite well considering our extended spell from footy.

Girls - Coach Jess Ogle: The girls were still in holiday mode for most of the first half with the Jets taking advantage and scoring two easy tries. The girls woke up heading into the break which saw Paris Robinson break through the Jets line to score out wide. Half-time score Jets up 12-4. The girls came out more determined in the second half. Naomi Smith crossed but the the conversion was unsuccessful. They had the Jets on the back foot but in the end we just ran out of time.

Full time score Jets 12- Gundy 8. The girls realise what went wrongand will be working hard at training to come back this weekend.

The Junior Boars girls' team is keen to improve on Saturday.
