Brentopher “Axe” Townsend bleeds “green and gold”.
Not that he does that much.
Usually it’s opposition players who have been on the receiving end of the Axe over his past decade of football who have done the most bleeding.
But while he hits, hard, he’s built up the respect of his own team mates and opposition for being as fair as the day is long.
It’s why there were plenty of people who celebrated with him last week when he played his 150th game for the Green and Gold.
Sadly it didn’t go the way he would have wanted, the Hawks went down to Coolaroo.
It was one that got away for the Hawks. They were given a lesson in the first quarter, and only marginally improved in the second. But the second half was a different story. They won convincingly after enthusiasm and fitness threatened to swamp the Roos.
Unfortunately their lack of confidence and inability to hit targets early was their undoing.
