Throughout the first two weeks of rugby league season, Group 19 selectors had hawk-eyes on the region’s standout football stars.
The newly-elected 2017 selectors were tasked to choose this year’s under 23s representative side.
Of the 20-man squad, four McIntyre Warriors’ players were chosen including Malcolm McGrady, Brandon McGrady, Damien McIntosh and Liam Close.
The Boggabilla boys will join the likes of players from Moree, Inverell, Warialda and Tingha to represent Group 19 on April 29 in Armidale. The squad will front the best of the best from Group 4 and Group 21 for a chance to be selected in the 2017 Northern Division representative team. If selected in Northern Division, the young talents will play at the New South Wales Country Championships.
This is the first year Country Rugby League (CRL) have capped the playing age for a representative team with an outlook that younger players had a better chance of making a higher level.
