The hardest test of the season saw the Goondiwindi Soccer Roos welcome third-placed Garden City.
Goondiwindi, sitting top of the ladder, couldn't have started the game slower - Garden City didn't give the locals a touch of the ball in the first 10 minutes. Midway through the first half, an individual act of brilliance saw Dan Gilbert shoot and the fumbling keeper could only watch as the ball nestled in the bottom corner. Baffled by the unjust score line, Garden City fell into a slump and Goondiwindi capitalised with the magician Gilbert striking home a sweet free kick from the corner of the penalty area.
In the second half, crucial defending from Jon Synnott and coach Steve Roberts kept the score at 2-0. After Toby Jessen won a free kick between the area and half way line, Roberts stepped up, striking into the top corner to make it 3-0, cue scenes of jubilation from the bustling Gundy crowd. It was by no means a pretty win, but a win is a win. Final score - 3-0. Next game - Rockville @ Toowoomba - 11am 23/04.
