It’s on again. The Goondiwindi Rugby League Football Club is hosting its annual border knockout on Saturday, January 21.
There’ll be $14,000 up for grabs and teams are coming from everywhere.
"It's probably going to be one of the club’s biggest events of the year and after last year we’re really excited with the teams and players that have put their hands up,” club president Tony Carter said.
Teams are coming from St George, Morten Bay, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Newcastle, Moree and Grafton. With $14,000 up for grabs, all teams will be battling it out for a taste of Rugby League glory.
“It will be a be a spectator’s dream with things kicking off at 9.30am and a bar selling icy cold beers from 10am. What more could you ask for?” Tony said. “If you’re after some hard-hitting, bone-rattling, action-packed excitement, then Gilbert Oval is the place to be,” he said.
This year, four Goondiwindi sides will take to the fields: the Swamp Donkeys, the Jolly Butchers, the Hannah Goannas (who have said they have the best coach money can buy) and the Anderson Truck and Tractor Big Rigs. Boar Cal Skinner asked the big questions to the teams. Q: Coach, Captain, X factor players, team to beat, what they liked about the KO.
