MISSING the Goondiwindi RSL?
There is somewhere else where you can relax with your mates, share a cold beer and maybe even try a new sport, right here in town.
That place is, of course, the Goondiwindi Bowls Club.
The Club’s Chairman Jim Smith said there were a lot of people who were sad to see the end of the RSL and were looking for somewhere else to go.
“We don’t want to look like we’re trying to take advantage of the situation, not at all.
“We want to keep our club strong and to let people know there’s somewhere else they’ll be more than welcome and they’ll have just as good a time,” Mr Smith told the Argus.
“We’d love to have another 50 members.”
Full membership is $100 a year, and it costs just $10 for a social membership.
“If you’d like to try bowls, we can even lend you some,” Jim said.
“We’re a family-friendly venue, too.”
“The important thing for towns our size is to keep clubs like this open.
“We’ve lost the Leagues Clubhouse and the RSL in less than a year, and that means there’s only the Golf Club and the Bowls Club left,” he said.
He also urged anyone who was keen to take on the kitchen to contact the Club.
“It’s a perfect spot, and it would be ideal for the right person,” he said.
