Gundy Tri club gets hot and sweaty in St George

18 Nov, 2009 10:50 AM
The Goondiwindi Tri club hit the road on the weekend and attended St George High School’s “Tryathon” Fundraiser.

Despite 39degree heat and a tough head wind, the 24 Goondiwindi competitors put their best foot forward and made their mark on the local scene.

For many of the tri clubbers, it was their first step into competition and all performed well over the distance of a 500m swim, 20km ride and 5km run.

Pippa Bagshaw, Angus Wilson and Sandy Wilson made their presence known with outstanding first time results.

David O’Toole shone with a blistering 1:10:34 time and achieved eighth place.

Also despite being their first competition, high school team “G-Town”, consisting of Gus McLaughlin, Jens Springborg and Lachlan Tulloch, won the team division with a time of 1:06:53.

Old hand Nikko Siddins took out the women’s division with a lead of six minutes by finishing in 1:07:59.

She was closely followed by group of Goondiwindi girls Megan Erbs came in second, Anna Carswell third and Zoë Carpenter fourth.

Alina Barkla (5th) and Janet Kindt (8th) rounding out the top10 with six Goondiwindi place getters.

The men also faired well, with Adrian Herde picking up fourth and a series of Goondiwindi men appearing in the top 15.

The youngest Gundy competitor, Isla Herde, also performed brilliantly with a fourth place in the junior division. Despite the 39degree heat the tri club as a whole had a brilliant day.

They are now planning their next trip to Ballina.
