“Read with interest the article about Tom Dowling’s “Emu Milestone”.
Texas Rugby League has a milestone of its own.
Local legend Tim Smith (nephew of Merv and Toni Danes) has just completed his 23 rd season of a A Grade for the Texas Terriers (1987-2009).
In that time he has played in 11 A Grade grand finals, winning ten out ten until losing his first last season against Inglewood.
Tim has played every position except hooker and halfback.
While there are no exact records, he could have played around 400 games for Texas A Grade and over 30 rep games for the Border Bushrangers.
He is also a member of the Over 35 Border Bushranger side, which has won the last two Pan Pacific Games gold medals (13 a side and nines.)
He has hung up his boots this season but will still play in next year’s Masters’ Games (held every two years) having just turned 40.
Not a bad effort. (He has proudly had a Terriers tattoo with all his premierships put on his chest!)
