Mighty Boars get set for 2012

18 Jan, 2012 01:44 PM
WHAT a difference 12 months can make.

This time last year the Boars were looking to play in other competitions because of poor numbers.

The decision was made to apply to the Toowoomba Rugby League to field an under 18 and reserve grade sides only.

After plenty of controversy in Toowoomba this was accepted. Approaching the first round of the 2011 season training numbers and the edition of some quality players had the club asking the question of the TRL, could they be reinstated to the A grade competition.

The TRL said no the first week, however quickly reversed their decision for week two.

The rest is history as the Boars went on to play finals football in all three grades which was an amazing achievement.

2012 training has commenced and early indications are very promising with a number of key players having already signed for the 2012 season.

The Boars currently have a number of young players in pre-season training with the reformed Clydesdales.

These players along with some other younger players are also under notice to a number of NRL scouts.

Congratulations must go to these players and we wish them all the best over the coming weeks.

We will attempt to profile a number of key players through the Argus who will be leading the Boars on their 2012 Premiership Campaign. With such early interest the Boars are looking to put a fourth side in the TRL competition this year by forming a C Grade side, not all clubs have a C Grade side there are only about 8-10 games for the year.

The season does not start until April; however the club must advise the TRL by the end of January if we are going to have a side.

So if you are interested in losing or gaining a few kilos, a social game of footy or an excuse to get out of the house come and let us know your intentions.

For the more committed training is on Tuesday and Friday nights at 6pm while touch is playing and will go back to Tuesday and Thursday once touch finishes.

The Club is still on the lookout for coaches for both Reserve grade and C Grade so if you are interested put in an expression of interest.

Don’t be shy there will be a number of trials prior to the start of the season so all players new and old are invited to attend training and to be a part of the mighty Goondiwindi Boars 2012 season, make sure you get the Goondiwindi Argus for updates.
