In the last six weeks we have begun to have meetings regarding a Touch and Basketball Carnival here in Boggabilla, NSW in late February or early March 2010.
This activity is to encourage and give self-esteem and to build skills and friendships, with pride that out of a township of 750 people we are doing something positive for the town.
Being the gateway to NSW we are in a very good position to access the Business Centre in every way over the border in Goondiwindi, QLD.
The aims and purpose of this activity is to release the potential that people could see and accept that indigenous people have a love for sports.
Our sights are high when we see that resources are here and it means that with a vision we could rebuild the old waste places with the true and tried concepts of what will work for this place.
There are new and fresh ideas and knowledge that have been dormant for many years due to the old armchair critic’s version of “it will never work”.
A dream is created by much activity and as we come together and work on this we have gained ground each week.
We have work plans in the pipeline and over the years many words have fell to the ground without coming to fruition due to lack of opportunity to “dare to work in the dream”, without putting the concept in play of “all talk no action”.
To resurrect something of this nature we can look back at the examples of those that have worked and made something out of the little that was here.
It’s also important to remember that many have survived during the great football years, touch and basketball era and how people had mixed and lived side by side.
Politics have changed and the rule of acceptance has come with tolerance and understanding. We need the memories of survival to teach us not to be selfish.
Having this Touch and Basketball Carnival has already lifted Boggabilla people in a positive way, there is excitement and an expectation of, “Yes it’s coming and it’s happening.”
We have a delegation of people and the meetings are each Tuesday fortnight at a desiganated place for those whom wish to attend.
We have people in accounts, consulting, advisory, contacts and there are other roles needed to be advised.
Boggabilla has been put on the map for many happenings over the years but now a motivational change has begun for the better.
What we would like is support in any way in sponsorship for this positive venture to make this happening a possibility.
All pledges need to be tabled in our communications listings and contacts by post and/or mobile, or come to Boggabilla to our meetings.
Thank you for your support
