Racing round the ridges

Independent Consultants Ernest and Young have recommended the merger of the AJC and the STC Clubs. In a lengthy report they estimated a saving of $20 million dollars per year.

Both Clubs will meet next week and vote on the proposal.

The controversial item is a suggestion that the Canterbury race track should be sold. Already Racing New South Wales have announced that there will be a reduction in major race prize money and should the Corporate bookmakers and Betfair be successful in the Court case and not have to pay the 1.5percent on turnover then there will be more significant cuts in all aspects of the industry.

Weekend Hussler’s career could be over. The horse suffered a fetlock injury during the running of the Australian stakes at Moonee Valley a few months ago and vets were unable to make any headway with treatment.

The joint became infected and did not respond to treatment. It has finally been diagnosed as fluid leaking into the joint, a problem that has never happened in Australia before and very rarely overseas.

Trainer Ross McDonald said the horse was out for the rest of the year and everything would depend on what or if any treatment could be administered to the horse.

This one’s doing the rounds.

God says to Adam, “I want you to do something for me.” Adam said, “gladly.”

God says, “Go into the valley.” Adam says, “What’s a valley?”

God explains then says, “Cross the river.” Adam says, “What’s a river?”

God explains then says, “You will see a cave.” Adam says, “What’s a cave?”

God explains then says, “In the cave you will find a woman.” Adam says, “What’s a woman?”

God explains then says, “I want you to reproduce.” Adam says, “What’s reproduce?”

God explains and away Adam goes. In a short while he’s back and God says “What’s the problem now?”

Adam says, “What’s a headache?”

Peter Snowden is a real chance of catching Gai Waterhouse in this year’s Sydney trainers’ premiership.

A couple of months ago, it appeared just a formality that Gai would continue on her premiership winning way but Peter just kept on doing what he does best, producing horses trained and placed to perfection and after Saturday’s treble is now only two and a half wins behind Waterhouse.

The Lonhro colt Skytrain we tipped a fortnight ago saluted on Saturday, unfortunately at very skinny odds, but he was never going to lose.

The runner up Skyhood (also by Lonhro) has his foot on the till as well. Over to Flemington and Peter produced a beautiful black Lonhro colt called Denham who destroyed his opposition.

It does appear the Lonhros can handle any type of track, which is another bonus.

“The Missus just told me she’d been to the Doctor,” Rather Rotund Resident confided to Drinking Partner, “And that we had to get a divorce immediately.”

“What on earth for?” enquired Partner.

Resident replied, “She said the Doc told her with her health problem under no circumstances was she to touch anything that contained alcohol.”
