Gundy team in 2009 Holden Scramble

A team of Goondiwindi golfers will compete in the 2009 Holden Scramble this weekend when they journey to the Gold Coast to play in the event. The contest will be held at the Emerald Lakes course.

Led by Goondiwindi golf pro David Wright, the team consists of Peter Sullivan, David Edwards, Kevin Sewell and Tim Gibson.

If they are successful, they will compete in the national final at Twin Waters Novatel course. The club wishes them well.

The annual Mitre 10 Border Builders golf day held on Saturday was a big success with more than 70 golfers hitting off.

Winners were:

First: Mark Everingham, Kevin Lawless and David Raymond 53½.

Runners-up: Michael Watt, Ian and Cindy Zimmerman 55½.

Third: Matt Chapman, T. Saddler, C, Hayes 55½.

Nearest the pins - men: 2nd: R. Snell; 6th: L. McGinnes; 10th: R. Vandermatt; 15th: Clayton Smith; 18th: Paul Lynch.

Ladies: 6th: Cindy Zimmerman.

Long drives – men A Grade: Tony Gerry; B Grade: Rick Woodward; C Grade: Luke Smith. Ladies: Cindy Zimmerman.

Bradman’s Award: S. Ledbetter, J, Lee and H. Ints.

Sunday’s storm kept the field to a minimum and the winner of the 18 hole stableford was David Raymond with 38 points on a countback.

Runner-up was George Sloss, also on 38.

Nearest the pins: 10th: Don McKenzie (8.02m); 15th: David Raymond (2.37m); 18th: I. Zirbel (1.8m – 3 balls).

Ball comp went down to 36 and winners were: Greg Warden, George Sloss and David Raymond.

Wednesday’s Veterans was won by John Stehr and Albert McShane with 23 points from a three-way countback.

Runners-up were Barry Lowe and Clarrie Hillard.

Nearest the pins:

1st hole, 2nd shot A: Clarrie Hillard (2.69m); 1st hole, 3rd shot B: John Guyer (1.97m); 15th hole, 2nd shot A: Clarrie Hillard (in hole); 15th hole, 2nd shot B: John Stehr (84cm).

Thursday’s Sporters was won by David Edwards with 27 points.

Runner-up was Paul Cleary with 24.

Ball comp went down to 20 points and winners were: Tom Biggers, Matt Bauman; Ian Zirbel; John Suttor; Peter Smith; Darryl Murphy and Mark Everingham.

Nearest the pins: Pro Pin: Paul Lynch (7.96m); A Grade: Ian Zirbel (1.7m); B Grade: John Byrne (7cm).

Friday’s Chook Run winners were: John McCosker 30; Pam Glasson 29; Hugh McKinnon 28; Ian Zirbel 28; Lenore Coupe 27; Margaret Donovan 27; Tom Biggers 27; Malcolm Webster 27; Deidre Harris 27; Gerard O’Connor 27 and Craig Spicer 27.

Nearest the pins: A Grade: Gerard O’Connor; B Grade: Deidre Harris.
