Golfers tee off for Australia Day

THE Australia Day Golf Club flag event saw a field of 39 tee it up. The winner was Martyn Lynch with a great round of 5 under par off the stick to score 40 points. Martyn progressed the flag to the second green to take out the event. The runner-up was Damien Rose with 39 point who narrowly defeated Birthday boy Alan Carter. The ball comp went down to 25 points on a count back. The approaches went to Alan Sutton on the15th and the 10th and Gary Smith collected eight balls for his shot on the 18th to 1.51 metres.

Saturday’s event was a wash-out and only 17 players braved the overcast threatening conditions on Sunday. The winner, with an honest 36 points was Gerard O’Connor. Runner up was Greg Driver on a count back from Alan Jones and Gary Smith with 35 points. The approaches went to Rob McLasham on the 10th. Dom O’Connor on the 15th and Kevin Sewell picked up 4 ball for his shot on the 18th . The ball comp went down to 35 on a count back.

The veterans competition last Wednesday saw 18 players face the starter. Tom and Kerry Biggers were too good for the field amassing 24 points. Runners up were Marcus Arthur and Jeff Thatcher. The approaches went to Ron Harris, Kenny Montgomery, Billionare Byrne and the Coomba Kid.

Friday’s chook run saw a good field of 43 tee it up and the winner with a modest score of 23 was Geoffery Jackson from John Tribe on the come back trail. The chooks went down to 21 and the approaches went to Geoff Jackson, Alistair Smith and the Red Rooster approach was won by Sue Tribe

This Saturday is the Queensland Hotel Monthly Mug. Sunday will be an 18 hole stableford. Coming Events – Rabobank Day – Saturday February 11. The programmes are available at the clubhouse. Check out the club’s website @ www.goondiwindigolfclub.com
