A BIG day is looming at the Goondiwindi Golf Club next Saturday, March 13, when club stalwarts, Paul and Marty Lynch hold the Elders Insurance Golf Day.
The program will consist of a 4BBB Open Medley Stableford (men and women combinations). The day will start with a 12.30 shotgun start. There will also be a barbecue in operation.
Organisers are expecting a big field and a good day will be assured. The course should be in great condition after the recent rain.
The sodden conditions over the weekend kept scores down and also numbers were down.
On Saturday in the Queensland Hotel Monthly Mug, John Hurley survived a countback from Mark Everingham to win the mug for the month. Both golfers had 72 nett.
Nearest the pins: 10th: John Hurley (6.6m); 15th: Ron Girard (1.73m); 18th: Roger Stewart (9.9m – 5 balls).
Ball comp went down to 76 on a countback and winners were: John Hurley, Gerard O’Connor, Mark Everingham and Terry Rose.
Sunday’s winner was Hugh McKinnon with a nice 38 in tough conditions.
Runner-up on a countback was Alistair Smith with 36.
Nearest the pins: 10th: Tony Lloyd (7.20m); 15th: Tom Gibson (2.33m); 18th: Mark Everingham (5.77m – 7 balls).
Ball comp went down to 33 and winners were: Ian Zirbel, Tom Gibson, Tony Ecroyd, Marty Lynch, Hugh McKinnon, Mark Everingham, Paul Lynch and Alistair Smith.
Wednesday’s Veterans was won by Peter Elsley and Harold Clayton with 27 points.
Runners-up were Paul Cleary and Robert Webb with 23.

Thursday’s Sporters was won by Rod Gibson with 24 points.
Runner-up was Greg Warden with 22.

There was no Friday Chook Run due to rain. Players who took part will get a free game in their next chook run.
