Goondiwindi gun club
Forty-two people attended the November shoot, which is a great achievement considering traditionally numbers are down due to the furious activity of harvest.
It was perfect weather for the sport with only a slight breeze.
The first event was a fifty target double barrel cash divide with Barry ‘Bandit’ O’Byrne taking out overall honours with 48/50.
There were five other placegetters, all shooting off for placings from second through to sixth.
Moree’s Theresa Montgomery climbed out on top with a 52/56 in a brief contest with Ray Christie, who took out third with 51/56.
John Woods and Greg Rixon came fourth and fifth respectively and David Schultz also from Moree came 6th.
Every eye was on the main event which was a 75 target medley sponsored by Pacific Seeds.
The event was broken into 25 targets double barrel, 25 targets points and 25 targets continental.
AA grade was fiercely contested with Terry Rogers coming first on 120/125.
Terry was heard to say on the day that ‘Love is temporary insanity only curable by marriage’, which is probably the reason that his scores only get better with the obvious amount of practice he puts into the sport.
Ian Greenland making a welcome return to the sport coming in second place.
Mal Lillyman proved he still has the ticker to match it with the big boys and came in third.
A grade was blitzed by Doug Makim who has proven that his up and coming veteran status has left him undaunted.
Doug powered away with 122/125. Bruce Webster took out second place honours with 119/125 and Ian McMillan, who is still strutting high from his form of recent months, came in third with 118/125.
Bob Faulkner of such fame as the O.K. Milk Bar joined up on the day and much to his credit muscled his way into top line honours of B Grade with a winning score of 120/125.
Bob and his son Luke have just joined the Club and we are looking forward to watching them compete and enjoy the sport over the coming years.
Bandit O’Byrne keen to put his name on another trophy came in second and Barry White from Texas third.
Wes Shephard, who is proving that C grade is only a temporary stopover for him on the way to greater things ,carded 117/125.
Simon Corish is also getting used to his new Caesar Greenie and is now starting to hit targets with frightening regularity, Simon posted 108/125 to take out second position.
Third went to Theresa Montgomery with 106/125.
The Christmas shoot will be held on the December 13 at 9.00a.m.
As always anyone interested in the sport of clay target shooting is urged to come to a practice day.
All enquiries can be directed to the club secretary on 0428 671908.
Goondiwindi Rifle shooting
Shooters competed for a club trophy on Sunday at the 700-metre range. Conditions proved difficult early in the day and members had to work hard to obtain a respectable score.
James Choice proved to everyone that he could read tough conditions and went on to win the trophy with a well compiled 102 off rifle. Well done, James.
Next Saturday afternoon, members will attend the annual Christmas shoot which starts at 2pm. All shooters are reminded to bring a salad and a sweet dish.
Everybody welcome, come try your luck.

IGood news this week for the Inglewood Sporting Shooters. They have recieved a grant to build a shade shelter over the benchrest area.
The SSAA Qld will provide the funding for the project. The Goondiwindi Regional Council will be grading the rifle range in the next few weeks. Phil Neal and Scruffy Morgan are working on the shotgun range shed and will have a working-bee soon to erect the shelter.
Two new voice-activated AT 50 Atlas Traps should be purchased this week. These can be set up to do double rise events and/or compact clays.
Talking about clays, before the spring broke on the trap there were two guests of Scruffy Morgans who arrived for a try at clay target shooting.
Bearing in mind these two had never handled a firearm previously, they were admirably coached by Ray Dudgeon and Phil Neal.
The guests were Janin and Vera visitors from Germany who are working at a local hotel.
Clay Results.

2nd Phil Neal
3rd was a tie between Vera and Janin
