THE Goondiwindi rep cricket team continued on its winning way on Sunday.
They downed Chinchilla at the Golf Club to go to the top of ladder.
The team has one game left against Dalby in three weeks’ time.
With the storms around on Friday and Saturday evening, the wicket was covered for both nights and appeared to be a little on the green side.
The Chinchilla quickies were licking their lips to have a crack and they got their wish when they won the toss and asked Goondiwindi to have a bat.
It wasn’t long before they had made some inroads into the top order, removing Ian Webster (4) and Scott Jackson (7), both bowled by the completion of the 6th over.
The ball was certainly zipping around off the wicket and through the air and life in the middle was uncomfortable.
This then brought the in-form skipper Andrew Mackenzie to the crease and, with Karl Jackson having adjusted to the conditions and looking pretty comfortable, they took the score to 48.
Karl eventually mistimed a pull shot and was caught at mid-wicket, sent on his way for a well made 30.
Andrew Yates was next in. Due to harvest commitments he had only had one dig for the season, an unbeaten 102 against All Whites in round one.

Yates looked a little rusty early however he kept his head down and together with Mackenzie ground out an 85-run stand that would prove to be a match-winning partnership.
When Yates (24) departed with the score at 4-133 it was left to Mackenzie to do the bulk of the scoring and his 56 was a decisive innings in the match.
Goondiwindi then lost their last remaining six wickets for the addition of only 56 runs and were dismissed for 189 in only the 42nd over.
The inability of the Goondiwindi line-up in not completing their allocated 50 overs meant that they fell way short of a possible score of around 220-230.
The Chinchilla team were looking pretty confident throughout the lunch break and it was generally thought that 189 was going to be hard to defend.
The Goondiwindi attack led by Anthony McGregor were brilliant and they soon had Chinchilla on the back foot with their opener Budden on his way clean bowled in the first over without troubling the scorer.
This then brought their gun batsman Cameron Phillips to the crease and he looked comfortable playing some text book cuts and pulls.
Together with skipper Gall Chinchilla began to score freely.
Phillips (13) mistimed a drive and was dropped by McGregor in his follow through and you would have thought that Goondiwindi would pay dearly for the missed opportunity however the chance caused him to lose concentration.
In the same over Phillips tried to heave McGregor over mid-wicket only to see his stumps shattered. A further wicket to McGregor, a freakish diving caught and bowled, in his second spell to remove the experienced Scott Taylor (15) had Chinchilla 3-66.
The visitors were still in control with Gall looking in good form and pouncing on anything loose that the Goondiwindi attack severed up.
Goondiwindi skipper Mackenzie resisted the opportunity to introduce spin to the attack instead making use of the conditions and some quality of seamers.
Andrew Yates dismissed the Chinchilla captain for 46 bowling him with a full toss.
This then saw Yates and Dan Gall destroy the remaining Chinchilla batting line-up.
The score went from 4-85 to 8-91 in just eight overs and between them they eventually cleaned up the tail to dismiss them for 126.
They gave a fantastic exhibition of swing bowling and Yates finished with 4-25 and Gall 3-23 from his 10 over spell.
Anthony McGregor also bowled superbly again and set the standard to claim the firstt three scalps, finishing with 3-28.
Pierce Saunders although wicketless was also effective and bowled with much better control.
The Goondiwindi ground fielding was sharp and the catches all stuck. This would have undoubtedly pleased captain Andrew Mackenzie. The skipper didn’t think they had enough runs in the bank and was glowing in his praise of his fast bowling quartet who stepped up after an indifferent display against St. George two weeks ago.
The next Knox Shield fixture is against Dalby on November 29 and it would be appreciated if as many people as possible could make themselves available to travel up for this match as a win would mean that we get to host the final on December 13. There is also an over 40s match in Dalby to be played on the same day as the Knox Shield fixture against Dalby and anyone over 40 wishing to play in that game are welcome
The Goondiwindi & District competition continues this weekend with the harvest break now over and will allow our top players the opportunity to get some cricket under their belts in the lead-up to the next Knox Shield match.
The result on Sunday was fantastic considering that most players have only had a couple of games so far this season and shows what a talented group of players that we currently possess.
This weekend is Round Six and sees all fixtures being played on Saturday due to Junior Rep Cricket on Sunday. All Whites play Border (Turf), Yagaburne meets Railways (Yagaburne), Macintyre up against Colts (Leagues Club) with Boomi having the bye.
