THE Goondiwindi Cricket Association celebrates one of its most successful ever seasons on March 13.
Goondiwindi was undefeated in the Knox Shield downing Chinchilla in the final.
It then went on to defeat Lockyer Valley to take out the Slade Shield under the present system.
(Originally, the Slade Shield was a representative competiton between Goondiwindi, Warwick, Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba.)
“It’s been a top year on the representative level but the local competition has exceded expectations as well,” Goondiwindi Association Secretary Bob Jakins said.
“It’s been the closest comp in years.
“With one week to go every team has a chance of making the finals with the exception of Colts. It all comes down to this weekend and the old hands can’t remember that happening in a long, long time,” he said.
The presentation evening last year was a big success.
“It was a real celebration of cricket and this year will be no different,” Bob said.
‘Of course everyone will want to find out who wins ‘Cricketer of the Year’,” Bob said.
“This is a night for any cricket fan or follower. We’d really urge former cricketers and their families to come along and relive some of those old memories as well.”
Tickets are available from The Argus and from Rabobank.
They are $35.
That will include a meal and a small bar tab.
The dinner will be held at the Golf Club from 6.30pm.
