ONE of four year-old Nayden Café’s dreams is about to come true, thanks to the Starlight Foundation’s Make a Wish program.
And his family will be able to share that dream with him, thanks to the hard work of two Goondiwindi High School Students, Cody Schaeffer and Megan Sutton.
Cody and Megan are running a raffle to raise money.
“All the shops in town have been great. They’ve given us so much stuff,” said Cody.
Nayden has an acquired brain injury, which has left him with severe and impairing disabilities.
“Someone nominated him for the Make a Wish program. It was anonymous, so we don’t know who to thank,” said Nayden’s mum Elisha Brookfield.
“Nayden can’t speak, but the people at the foundation were so good, they showed him photographs, and worked out what he wanted,” she said.
Nayden’s enthusiasm for Mickey Mouse meant Disneyland, but his parents think it is much more likely he’ll get a trip to dance on stage with Bindy Irwin at Australia Zoo or a trip to Movieworld, Dreamworld and Seaworld.
“I know he’d really love to swim with the dolphins,” she said.
“And we really don’t want to fly in a plane,” said Nayden’s dad, Richard Café.
Caring for the little boy has put a lot of strain on his family, said fundraiser Cody.
“We’d like the whole family to have the chance to get away and enjoy themselves,” he said.
Nayden has two brothers, Jordan, 6, and Bryon, 2 and a one year-old sister Mia. The funds raised will mean the whole family can enjoy all the activities on the trip.
“We’re so delighted with the efforts of these students and all the people at Coolabah Child Care. We can’t thank them enough,” Elisha said.
A $2 ticket puts you in the draw for some fantastic prizes including gift vouchers from Cooreys, Stage One, the Co-op, Nutmeg, She Curves, Extra Flair, Subway and Red Rooster.
Tickets will be on sale on Saturday, March 21 or at Coolabah Childcare Centre.
