Tragedy on Gore Hwy

14 Oct, 2009 10:38 AM
AN 18 year-old Brisbane woman was killed in an horrific Sunday afternoon crash which saw dead and dying cattle strewn along the highway.

The accident occurred 30km east of Goondiwindi on the Gore Highway at 3.30pm.

Police said it appeared the woman lost control of her vehicle, a Toyota Echo, veering off the road before spinning backwards into the path of an on-coming cattle truck.

The woman died at the scene.

The driver of the prime-mover did not sustain any major injuries and was consoled by his father who had been travelling some distance behind.

The woman, Nadya Rose Tapscott, was a hairdresser at St Lucia, Brisbane.

It’s believed she was travelling to Narrabri to visit family. Goondiwindi Regional Council stockmen disposed of the injured cattle. Police said they were unsure how many but said it was “minimal”.
