THE second-hand shop at Goondiwindi Dump is open for business again.
Supervisor Fred Kinsella has a message or two: if you’re taking furniture, building supplies, beds, toys or pot plants out to the tip: don’t DUMP them.
Call in at the shop first, and see whether Fred and Kristy would like to sell them. “We’ve had people drive straight past and dump their stuff, when they could stop here first and save themselves, and us, a lot of time.”
And, please dump your “trash” in the right area. “It’s all clearly sign-posted now, but we keep getting metal thrown in with the green waste or the other way around,” he said,
The shop reopened two months ago, much to the delight of long-term scavengers and greenies like Margo Hancock.
“I was so annoyed to see it shut and all that good stuff going to waste. It’s great it’s up and running again,” she said.
Manager Greg Hill allowed the reopening on a trial basis.
The shop tries to keep prices as low as possible.
“We sell only the best of the stuff we can find. If it doesn’t sell after a few weeks, we chuck it back on the heap.”
Dyllan Tatnell, 13, and Clayton Mobbs, 10, found something they really liked at the shop – a motorbike. “This is so cool!” Dyllan said.
