Get B.A.D at the Goondiwindi PCYC

20 May, 2009 10:20 AM
HANGING out at the Goondiwindi PCYC and being B.A.D. at the same time is not usually encouraged, but that all changes on Saturday night.

Young people from Goondiwindi, Boggabilla, Toomelah, and district are invited to take part in PCYC B.A.D. activities – “Basketball After Dark” that is.

Goondiwindi PCYC will host former NBL Legend Andre Moore for an evening of hip hop music, hard rock, modern dance, and three-on-three basketball.

It’s not very often that young people in Goondiwindi get an opportunity to hang out with a basketball legend like Andre. Andre’s put so much back into Basketball, the game he’s loved since growing up on the south-side of Chicago, with an impressive Basketball career which took him to Europe, and eventually onto the Brisbane Bullets.

“He’s also done great work in Queensland Schools and Indigenous Communities” Sgt David Lynch of the Goondiwindi PCYC said.

“He came up to Mornington Island and ran some workshops with the local kids when I was up there. I think he had just as good a time as the kids did.”

The event kicks off at 6pm with a free sausage sizzle, and music by Parmy Dhillon and The Electric Stallions.

Parmy and his band are performing a gig at the Royal Hotel on Friday night, and will help to get the B.A.D. night off to a great start with their own brand of acoustic hard rock.

From 7.30pm onwards, the three-on-three, and five-on-five basketball action starts, along with hip-hop music and modern dance demonstrations.

The night will finish around 10.30pm, with bus pick-ups and drop-offs from Boggabilla and Toomelah being organized.

“The PCYC B.A.D. Night will complete a great day of fun and entertainment for young people in Goondiwindi,” Sgt Lynch said. “RiverJam runs from 10am through to 3pm at the Botanical Gardens and will showcase the immense young musical talent of the local area,” he said.

After RiverJam has finished, Parmy Dhillon will be doing an acoustic set at the PCYC’s ‘Chillout Café’ in Marshall St. This is a unique opportunity to see this singer-songwriter from Shepparton “Up Close and Personal”.

“Parmy, who’s been featured on Rage and YouTube, is a great Australian talent whose songs are about his experiences, and the people he’s met in his travels,” Sgt Lynch said. For further information, please contact the Goondiwindi PCYC on Ph 4671 5677.
