The works involved extensive geotechnical examination of the waterpark bed and the laying of clay on significant areas to reduce the seepage issues.

Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Engineering, Cr Rob Reardon says significant testing has shown that the seepage rate at the water park is now inconsequential.

“Natural water seepage at the waterpark is only 0.6 mm/day which is about the thickness of a line drawn with a biro,” Cr Reardon said.

“Evaporation is, and will always be the problem in keeping water levels with an estimated annual loss of about 1.7m,” he says.

The waterpark has been popular with skiers over the summer months with the park open for skiing from last June until late February.

“Although we haven’t had much opportunity to harvest high flow water we have managed to generally retain the level to around 1.2 metres until this week,” Cr Reardon says.

Due to safety issues the boat ramp is currently closed to the public as the level is currently sitting at around one metre.

“There’s still plenty of fun to be had so take out your canoe or have a swim and a barbecue while the weather is still warm,” Cr Reardon said.
