Boggabilla gets it together for young people

24 Feb, 2010 11:30 AM
A NEW youth centre in Boggabilla officially celebrated its opening last week.

The Getting It Together Youth Centre will cater to young people in the Boggabilla and Toomelah communities aged 12 to 25.

Charity organisation Drug Arm Australasia funded the project, offering the multi-purpose centre as a safe environment for young people to go.

Getting It Together coordinator Taegen Pascoe said the program had been running in Goondiwindi, but was now reaching into outlying areas.

“Our program has been up and running since the beginning of last year,” Ms Pascoe said.

Ms Pascoe said the new Youth Centre will be open five days a week, and run by herself and youth worker Harold “Buddy” Brown.

The centre had been open since last week, celebrating its official opening on Wednesday.

The centre had already received great support from the community, Ms Pascoe said, with about 60 residents turning out for the opening.

“Get It Together is looking forward to a long-term relationship with the communities of Boggabilla and Toomelah,” she said.

Located at 34 Simpson Street, the centre offers counselling, support, a youth work/case management service, information, a referral and advocacy service, peer leadership courses, games, movie nights and organised activities.

Drug Arm Australasia promotes a healthy lifestyle without the use of unnecessary drugs.
