DID you do your money on the Melbourne Cup? Why not try backing a crustacean instead of a horse? Moonie’s annual Yabbie Races held to support the town’s Sports Club will be held on Saturday, November 28.
It’s the fourth time the event has been held. Last year more than 300 made the trip and this year promises to be ever bigger and better.
There are eight races on the card, culminating with the running (well, crawling really) of the Moonie Cup. You can bid for one of the eight starters in each race and if your yabbie comes in a winner, you’ll win the prize money and the glory. (And if he loses, you’ve got the makings of a prawn cocktail.)
You can frock-up Flemington-style for the always hotly-contested Fashions-of-the-Field. Bring the whole family for a great day out including a Jumping Castle and a Merry-Go-Round for the children.
The Moonie P&C is providing afternoon tea and there’s barbecue meals for dinner and a fully licensed bar. You can dance till late with music from Kieran Lillis.
There’s over $2000 in prizes in two great raffles and sweeps on every race. Remember to bring your cash because there’s no EFTPOS or cash-out facilities.
Gates open at the Sports Club grounds at 2pm. Entry is $25 for a family, a $10 for a single ticket (for over 18s).
Moonie is an hour’s drive north of Goondiwindi at the intersection of the Leichhardt and Moonie Highways
